Before the pandemic, before everyone and their mother decide to participate in the Banana Bread Renaissance, Allie Chernick – the baker behind Allie Banana Bread– not only succeeded in making the otherwise sad breads aesthetically pleasing, but they also sold them online within minutes. Minutes! Like, hungry people on the internet literally set alarm bells for a chance to score that banana bread. And they still do.

The New York-based baker’s banana bread took off when it had its first online sale in December 2019, but it’s all rooted in years of baking before that. “My grandmother taught me her recipe for plain banana bread when I was very little, and I always made it for college bake sales,” Chernick told Delish. She experimented with it, making cupcakes with Nutella frosting and possibly adding chocolate chips and other toppings.

Her friends (and her friends’ friends) would always ask her for banana bread, so she created the @alliesbananabread Instagram account to better follow orders via DMs. As the orders increased, she decided to start a website.

Now Chernick is doing “drops” where she tells customers when she’ll be opening orders on her website and what days she’ll be packing. Currently, she sets the cap at 150 loaves per drop, which she then bakes in one day. When she opens the order, it usually sells out within five minutes. She recently quit her job to run the banana bread business full time and hopes to expand her inventory in the future with more than one baking day per week with help in the commercial kitchen she rents. now.

The Banana bread it sells comes in two sizes: mini and regular. Depending on the flavor, mini breads range from $ 8 to $ 10 and regular breads range from $ 15 to $ 20. “What people go crazy about are the monthly flavors,” Chernick says. Last month, she gave away a Triple Chocolate Banana Bread. You can expect Apple and Cinnamon Banana Bread for September and probably a Pumpkin Spice for October.

For my part, I can certainly see this shop transforming into Leaven of Banana Bread. The masses simply cannot get enough! Chernick says opening a store would be her dream come true, and she can certainly see it happen sooner than she ever anticipated. Until there, follow her on Instagram for all the information you need to purchase his superb banana bread. FYI, her “Order Q’s” Instagram highlights are extremely helpful!
