EAST HAMPTON, CT (WFSB) – A man from East Hampton has turned his dream of earning bread into reality.
Christian Michalowski said he has had a passion for baking for years.
When he got the chance to start over, he opened the Black Walnut Artisan Bread Company in town.
For almost 20 years, Michalowski was a researcher at Global Pharmaceutical Company.
When there were massive layoffs at the company in 2017, Michalowski told Channel 3 he knew what he would do next: open a bakery.
The concept of the Black Walnut Artisan Bread Company is based on bakeries in Europe. He said there was a store on every corner.
It took a year, but it was a collective effort. Now her store on Main Street is open.
âToday everyone is moving at the speed of light, everyone is on their phones and gadgets,â Michalowski said. âI wanted to come full circle to a simpler time. This is our motto. Bake bread, take it home, share it with family and have a good time with those you love.
He said all the preparation is done by hand.
He enters the bakery at 4 p.m. to make all the tubs of dough. Then he comes back at 3 a.m. to start forming the loaves and let them rise.
By the time the bakery is ready to open, the shelves are filled with bread.
He said the company makes around 120 to 150 loaves of bread a day.
One of its specialties is Nutella bread.
The bakery also makes cakes and cookies.
It is open Thursday through Sunday at 6.30am until it is full.
