A newly renovated pastry shop and sandwich shop promise new baked goodies after being taken over by new owners.
Cake and Bake, in Osmaston Road, Allenton, offers customers a new range of locally sourced cakes, sandwiches and other baked goods at reasonable prices.
The store, which replaced the old hot bread store, has been redeveloped to breathe new life into the outlet.

Store manager Vicki Middleton, 51, of Swadlincote, said the old store in its place was too old-fashioned and had lost its charm over the years.
She said: âIt’s now completely new owners, we still have some of the staff working, and everything has been refitted and refurbished.
âI think it was just stuck in a time warp and needed to be updated.
âIt was like the last time I came here to watch it, it was like stepping back in time a little bit, it just needed an update,â she said.
âWhen they did the refits, there were a lot of things that they didn’t take into account until they started pulling it out.
âThis is why the renovation took us a little longer than expected, but we still sell the same sort of stuff they were in the Hot Bread Shop, other than the bread is not baked on square. “
The store will continue to sell the baked goods and cakes for which the Hot Bread Shop is famous, but will also sell burgers, paninis, hot dogs and made-to-order birthday cakes.
Vicki added, âEverything we sell is local, our main supplier of bread and things like that is the Buckley bakery in Swadlincote, and we also get cakes from them, as well as other local suppliers.
âIt’s reasonably priced, everything is made to order. It’s just friendly, cool, and clean.
The store is open on Osmaston road in Allenton from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Friday, and from 6.30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.
